2019s report concluded that the consequences of climate change are far more expensive than meeting the climate targets.

While the global energy-related emissions will be in line with a 2-degree pathway, last year's report also analysed what would be required for Europe to follow a 1.5-degree path, which would be quite ambitious.

A surprising finding in this year’s report was that there is a relatively small cost difference when steering towards 1.5 degree instead of a 2 degrees pathway. If we aim for 1.5 degrees, the energy system costs will be well below 1 per cent of European GDP in 2050. Globally, several experts have estimated the cost of a 2 to 3 degrees warming by 2100 to be between 5 and 10 per cent of global GDP.

Have a read through this year’s report. I am sure you will find it just as interesting!
