Statkraft’s Data Center Sites team launched itself at the Data Cloud Europe conference in Monaco in June. The team joined forces with Innovation Norway and other parties in order to promote Norway as a favourable host for future hyperscale data centers.

Most of the data center world’s leading industry players attended the conference. In addition to promoting Statkraft as facilitator of hyperscale data centers in Norway with a booth at the fair, the project team conducted a series of successful meetings with potential data center investors and other market participants.

Positive feedback from prospects

“We met a series of potential customers and one of the key takeaways from these meetings was the feedback that the customers support our approach to facilitate for hyperscale data centers in Norway”, says project director Atle Haga.

Although several industry giants already have selected sites in Finland, Sweden and Denmark, there are no sites picked in Norway yet.

However, demand for data center site locations with access to renewable energy is expected to grow immensely over the next few years. Norway should be just as attractive to the data center industry as the neighbouring countries. Total electricity cost in Norway is highly competitive and the access to the fibre network is good.
